ALI
A somewhat enlightened Alithidil, he makes his introduction by telling to the audience of the Lion Inn a folk tale about a third moon that once moved above their heavens, before moving onto the subject of unity among all peoples.
Ali afterwards engages Erin in deep conversation and discussion about spirituality. He explains certain symbolic notions, all with a hearty cheer, and attempts to encourage Erin into considering a Concept of God that is bigger than the scope of Erin's religion, including pantheist and foundationist themes, and their justification through personal revelation, although Erin finds this difficult.
For the moment Ali is content to merely introduce Erin to the way in which God may be made obvious to ordinary eyes and in ordinary ways. Ali uses many examples of illustrative analogy and metaphor to help explain what is an otherwise complicated theological issue, and although his manner is greatly cheerful and friendly, Erin remains fixed and rooted in his beliefs, as dictated by the Order of Omicron. Erin is interested enough to listen, and although his own faith is already shaken by events in the city, he is unable to comprehend all of Ali's meanings properly, for Erin has many enough concerns on his mind at the moment, particularly his forthcoming Presentation and hopeful Ordination. |
