DARRION

Conspirator and anti-character to Jerith, Darrion Panater-Arios is one of twins with his brother, Eirron.

Both have been invited into Mulrek's scheme and conspiracy to provide money for arms to supply unstable kingdoms, that are growing warmly to Mulrek's promises of personal wealth and expansion, by supporting the cause of the Corianth Empire becoming a republic. In addition to this role, Mulrek has requested both of the Panater-Arios twins to hire some group of men to eliminate an accounting investigation, who are researching Workhouse ledgers captured by previous agents of Councillor Amberlin. Although Mulrek does not believe that, even should they contain useful information, he could ever be convicted in time before his own plans' fruition, he nevertheless considers it necessary that all those studying the tomes should be prevented from doing. Slow to act, Darrion merely uses cheap and common street thugs to do the job, and Mulrek chides the twins for allowing their hirelings to act too slowly. When eventually successful in their task, Darrion directs the thugs (via Mellar) to execute the main characters for interfering in his business. As an extra insurance, and also as a way to remove the thugs before they can talk, Darrion decides on hiring Deevan and his men, knowing full well the man's proven abilities.

Joined to Mulrek's cause for no greater reason than monetary profit, Darrion is merely seeking to increase his trade opportunities, and views the notion of an approaching civil war in terms of accounts to be secured and opportunities to be gained for further filling his purse. Not that he really needs it, for the twins Darrion and Eirron are selflessly rich, living out their brutal pleasures upon women of the street procured by their loyal servant Mellar. Highly intelligent but flawed by apathetic indulgence and arrogant self-assurance, Darrion bears little respect for the other conspirators (ie, the anti-characters) excepting when he wants something from them. Received into Siyat's trust, Darrion ensures he learns as much as he can about Rynell and Mulrek from him, eyeing their pasts with an interested eye. Of Mulrek, Darrion is rightly suspicious, for he cannot discover the man's true past, excepting those stories that doggedly follow in Mulrek's wake of miracles and murder. Of Rynell, Darrion is particularly scornful, and considers Rynell's adherence to doctrines of higher purpose as nothing more than deluded hypocrisy. Darrion's snide accusations regarding the fate of the Cardinal Pontiphas grate terribly on Rynell, especially considering the poor timing of his calls. They do not meet again.
