EZEBEKIAL
One of the seven main characters in the Chronicles series.
BACKGROUND - Ezebekial has travelled from a point far distant in both space and time to attempt to prevent Mulrek from changing an existing timeline, and although his mission is supposed to be quiet urgent, Ezebekial becomes too over-awed by his surroundings to concentrate fully upon his task. Travelling with a weasel, whom he has an empathic connection with, and who sleeps in his robes, Ezebekial also carries a long metal staff, shaped with organic forms and small lights in dentritic patterns. His staff is the source of his futuristic technology, and deals fundamentally with the manipulation of powerful electro-magnetic fields.
Unfortunately, Ezebekial is unable to locate Mulrek at first, notably because Ezebekial is unable to interpret information from his own staff properly.
GATHERING - Ezebekial is present as another guest in Nel's Tavern, his staff being impolitely grabbed at by Sirath when Wallam and his accomplices burst in, Sirath attempting to use the staff as a bludgeoning weapon. The sharp electric shock Sirath receives soon after from it creates a strong mistrust after of Ezebekial. Jerith later asks Ezebekial if he would like to join their group, seeking employment from Councillor Amberlin in the city of Corianth, an offer that Ezebekial takes up simply because he is travelling in that direction regardless.
RELATIONSHIPS - Ezebekial has no particular rapport with any of the other main characters, and is quite the loner of the group. He is befriended somewhat by Jerith, who accidentally stumbles upon Ezebekial while using his staff, and is thus allowed a little into the world of Ezebekial's secrets, although he does not understand the terms and technical phrases that Ezebekial imparts. Tilrion also takes a specific interest in Ezebekial, especially after some of the more dramatic events within the Lion Inn, but he too is unable to understand Ezebekial's scientific terminology.
While preparing to move to the Bod and Bumpkin, Michalas Harolmeyer specifically has Ezebekial kept away from nearby crowds, lest Ezebekial be taken for a sorcerer practising witchcraft.
ANTI-CHARACTER - Ezebekial's anti-character is of course, Mulrek. Both men have travelled through history to have some impact on past history - Mulrek to change it, and Ezebekial to sustain it. Although Mulrek is driven by the need to save his planet from the future apocalypse that costs billions of lives, Ezebekial must ensure that Mulrek does not succeed, or else his own home planet, populated by the billions of ancestors of the survivors of that tragedy, will cease to exist. |
