LIONOSSUS
The largest kingdom in the Corianth Empire, it is highly important, both politically and militarily, representing a staunch bulwark for imperialists. A commanding member in the Palantine Confederation against civil unrest, it was originally founded and developed upon Thos Silver Wolf clan lands by the Emperors Irithos I and then Irithos II, in honour of their father and his legacy, being Sephis I. Already large, its boundaries were later expanded through petty wars and especially in the period known as the Broken Empire. Unusually, the Kingdom of Lionossus has remained exempt from any direct authority from the Order of Omicron and has thus become a haven and refuge for lesser religious orders that would otherwise experience persecution for their heresies and freedom from central authority, and the Brothers of the Palladinic Sanction, and the Sardonian Sisters, are particularly important examples.
Politically, the current climate there is tense. Although the already aged King Lithos retains his current powers of a unified kingdom, his three sons, the royal princes, are expected to fragment Lionossus into three upon their own ascension. Unable to trust one another, and torn by ambition, the death of their father is likely to lead to civil conflict within the boundaries of the kingdom. Already they are playing their hands in preparation by ridding themselves of family members who could aid or abet one prince over another. Most notably their powerful cousin, Prince Renforth, son of the gaunt Royal Chamberlain who is himself a younger brother of King Lithos, has been exiled on a trumped up charge of conspiracy and complicity in the murder of younger nephews. Renforth is now making his way across the empire, along with a retinue of thousands, to meet familial in-laws in Glora-Farel and establish himself there. It is an open secret that Prince Renforth could be assassinated at his destination.
