MARDIN
Second city of the Corianth Empire and significantly more wealthy, Mardin holds lucrative markets in precious metals and gems. Originally founded as Irrax as the historical heart of the Ossienic Empire and then Irthraya, Sephis re-named it and formed the Kingdom of Irithia when he conquered it.
An important political centre, it has attempted independence from the Corianth Empire a number of times, notably during the period known as the Broken Empire, only for serious factionalisation to undermine such attempts.
A new king has ascended, Nicepherous Comas, who has already survived multiple attempts on his life by family members. It is known that he is a staunch supporter of independence, and while the empire has no cohesive religious authority and Emperor Sephis VI remains old and weak, it is believed that he has formed an alliance with the Bishop of Mardin to secularise their own authorities proper. |
