POLINOS II
An important official from Serrilinus, he followed Polinos I to the throne in 149 LC under the same claimed restrictions. But Emperor Polinos II rapidly sought to erode his restrictions in order to found his own dynasty, trying to buy favour by awarding imperial trading monopolies to distinguished noble families. For some time he was successful in maintaining his position, but when he found his favours not returned, he attempted to bring in drastic legislation returning the imperial monopolies already sold off. In 171 LC, while on the road to Mardin, his escort and carriage were attacked and all were slain. Emperor Polinos II was followed to the throne by Emperor Sephis IV. |
