SLAVERY
Although now banned throughout most of the Corianth Empire, some kingdoms, notably that of Irithia, still have an officially sanctioned slave class. However, many landowners get around the laws against slavery by forcing their peasant farmers into debt through various means, and then charging ridiculous interest charges, demanding services in return. This can often take the form of military duties. In doing so, and taking folk from the farms, the fields are left less tended, thus escalating the problem of debt for that family. |
